NZ CHAMPION NAMBALA GOMBE

"Nik"

Nik's former years were spent with a newly married couple that lived in Auckland.
During this time he was mainly a family pet shown sparingly. Although not a frequent exhibit he managed to gain a number of major Allbreed Championship Show wins.
When their new baby arrived, he became their 'baby monitor' - every time the baby woke up Nik would run from the baby to the mother until the baby was attended to. For personal reasons unfortunately they found they couldn't keep him and we gladly welcomed him back to Nambala. He lived with us for a number of years continuing his show career.

His major awards were:

Reserve Best in Show & Junior in Show Taupo Allbreeds Championship Show
Best in Show East Coast Hound Championship Show
Puppy in Show Hutt Valley Allbreeds Championship Show
Reserve Best in Show 1998 Rhodesian Ridgeback Champ Show
Best Dog RR Championship Show
Reserve Best Dog RR Champ Show from the Puppy Class
Plus numerous Group awards at Allbreeds Championship Shows

Nik has now retired from the show ring and is living in luxury with his new family Louise & Damon Horrocks along with their 2 cats. Damon takes him running every day and he is a regular attendee at Horse Events with Louise. Damon and Louise just adore him.

This is what they wrote when asked to describe Nik's nature:
"Daddy's Boy. Loyal (Nik's list of priorities - No 1.Dad, No 2.Food, No 3.Sun, No 4.Sleeping, No 5.Mum - please note that Mum moves up the list if accompanied by food), affectionate, polite, obedient (not always if off the lead), lazy (one of life's greatest necessities . lying in the sun . preferably on OUR bed), excellent with children (taught my sister and our two nieces that were petrified of dogs, that 'Nikky' is ok . now my sister has two dogs of her own and my nieces play tug of war with Nik yelling 'MY dog' at each other), well-behaved in company (human, cats, horses, other well-behaved dogs), placid, good guard dog, greedy."

Nik sired 2 very successful litters, both to Saba (Ch Nambala Ianthe) producing 3 NZ Champions from the 1st litter.
From the second litter only 2 are being shown. Our own Jamie who became a NZ Champion on her 1st birthday and Chaqamba who lives with Mary Joshua-Nugent, Netherlands - see 'Overseas Connections' for his progress.

While staying with us, Nik became the 'school dog', making many visits to local Wellington schools with Damian….
He made many young friends during those visits.

Nik is admired by the class at Northland school
